How to access AOL from another E-mail client

AOL or American Online is a web portal and an online service provider which is in New York. It is one among the famous brands on the web in the world. AOL Mail support is offered by Verizon Communications. It provides free web email services and it is also known as AIM Mail (‘AIM’ stands for AOL Instant Messenger)

What makes AOL Mail unique from the other E-mail accounts is it provides free email account and it attaches files to send messages faster than the other email provider. Some of the other features of AOL Mail are- AOL Mail has email attachment limit is up to 25MB, Spam protection, Virus protection, Spell checking and many more. 



One can easily use one’s AOL mail by using any compatible email clients by putting the information about AOL Mail and one’s own account. AOL Mail messages and folders in MS-Outlook, Windows 10 Mail, Mac Mail, Incredimail, and Thunderbird are required to access to AOL Mail IMAP server. Although both POP3 and IMAP are email client support, AOL suggests IMAP for an email client.

· The server address of AOL Mail IMAP is imap.aol.com

· For AOL Mail IMAP username, one’s full AOL Mail e-mail address.

· And for the domain name with the email address. For example user @aol.com, @games.com and many other.

· For AOL Mail IMAP password is the one which one keeps AOL password.

· AOL Mail IMAP port is 993

· AOL Mail IMAP TLS/SSL is required.

And given below are the points for SMTP settings for sending the outgoing emails from AOL Mail account from any email program. They are:

· The incoming mail server address is imap.aol.com

· The SMTP Outgoing server address is smtp.aol.com.

· SMTP port is 587

· And for the domain name with the email address. For example user @aol.com, @games.com and many other.

· For SMTP password is the one which one keeps for AOL mail login.

Some features which are inaccessible, while using through AOL Mail from other mail application. They are :

· Message Status- one can’t check the status of the sent message and can’t even bring back the unread AOL mail

· Spam- for reporting an email as spam, one needs to move mail spam to the Email client’s Spam folder or Junk folder. One cannot use the Report Spam button.


· Deleted Mail- Some of the email applications shows that the deleted email in the original folder when marked as delete.
